Winamp OpenSource LCD Plugin for
various LCD & VFD modules
November 02: new release 0.6.4 alpha, see What's
new
This Winamp 2.x plugin displays the current song
name and
many additional status information on a LCD/VFD display connected on
either the serial or parallel port.
Various LCD & VFD modules are
supported and one can even use it without a hardware display
- a LCD simulation is included.
A menu provides access to
playlists, song titles, albums, artists, directory browsing and much
more!
Matrix Orbital serial 4x40 LCD
The plugin also
supports various input methods to control the menu and Winamp itself:
keyboard,
WinLIRC,
serial character based and parallel keypads.
There's also a spectrum analyzer and a VU meter.
The latest
additions are:
- Sleep timer
- input options for shutdown, standby, hibernate & reboot
- ID3v2 tag support
- PJRC 8x24 driver
- Disk browser function
- Enhanced input support
- an onscreen menu function to control Winamp and for selecting MP3
files and playlists.
- a spectrum analyzer.
- multiple output sets.
At the moment some functionalities are still in alpha state and
shouldn't be used to control airplanes ;-)
The plugin
evolved a very long time ago from the mp3 part of my entertainment pc,
see my project page for more information.
The project died in the meantime, i.e. I sold the PC and my car mp3
player project got replaced by an Empeg.
But the plugin is very alive in my workstation at work.
Untested means that I haven't tested the driver myself, it
might
work very well but I can't guarantee it... Experimental means I wrote the driver but couldn't test
it.
Requirements
Winamp >= 2.4
Winamp 3 is not supported!
A LCD display, unless you can live with the onscreen
simulation :-)
A Windows machine
with Win 9x, NT 4, 2k or XP.
All parallel port interfaces with Windows NT 4, 2k or XP require
the port I/O driver from Scientific Software Tools, Inc: driverlinx.com
WinLIRC
to control the plugin and Winamp using almost any standard
infrared remote control
What does it cost?
Nix, nada, niet, gratis
- it's Open Source - yes it's completely for free with the complete
source code!
You can download it, use it, and redistribute it under the terms of
the GNU Public
Licence. Both binaries and source code are available.
Eventhough it's free
software any donations are very welcomed. You can donate money to the
project through my PayPal
account - there is no minimal amount for your donation. Contact me if you'd like
to contribute hardware so I can tell you if I'm interested and give you
my snail mail address.
